People always ask me: “Stefan, you have an unmistakable aura of goodness that both touches people and also inspires them to be better members of this thing we call humanity. I guess what I’m saying is how do you stay cool in this heat?”

And I always say: “A strict regiment of constant self praise, occasional good deeds, and ice cream.”

Staying cool when it’s hot isn’t easy. Finding a cool place isn’t that hard, it’s avoiding the inevitable boredom that comes from staying in that cool spot that is. So with that being said, the biggest threat to staying cool comes from boredom.

Ice cream at Cold Stone is one option. Now I’ve been pretty open with my overall dislike of ice cream shops that offer mix-ins. In my experience the quality of those mix-ins is in serious question.

Even though the mix-ins aren’t really the best at Cold Stone, they are okay once they are mixed into the ice cream. Of course even bad ice cream is still pretty good.

So what’s the dish?: When there is heat like this, all ice cream shops are safe from a bad review from Stefan.

The cake batter ice cream is by far the best. All of the ice creams have a true flavor, for example the banana tastes like real bananas. The mix-ins are standard but the ice cream flavors make it worth a trip.

Now I understand that the whole design of Coldstone is very silly and upbeat and happy. I can deal with that, it is ice cream after all. The ice cream is pretty middle of the road, even with the stir ins. But, do they have to sing everytime you tip them?

OK ice cream, nothin’ special. Most gimmicky and annoying atmosphere I’ve ever encountered in a chain. Every time they sing a song I feel like hanging myself. Personally, I avoid it like the plague.

I don’t care what anyone says…the cake batter ice cream is the best ice cream you will ever have in your life…but be careful…it’s addicting. I don’t think it should be legal for it to be so creamy. It’s just not right. There’s gotta be like 3000 calories in a cup.
And yes, the singing really should cease. Just give me my damn ice cream!
