No :-( Jennifer's review (Apr 30th 2006)

The reader board outside clinched the deal. Cruising north up Monroe in search of a Dearly Departed record, I knew on the return trip we’d be swinging into Caffe Delicio. How could I pass up something as tempting as a huckleberry white coffee latte? Besides, I’d always wondered about the not so shabby shabby-chic coffee house. And I never miss a Bean Scene opportunity.

Inside, Caffe Delicio felt like a comfortable, well-adorned passenger train car. High bar tables and padded stools lined one end of the narrow, free-standing building while a small sitting area complete with upholstered lounge chairs occupied the other. The coffee staging area, prep station, and cash register brought up the rear. Sweet sayings crisscrossed around the buttercream walls and a stack of local weeklies piled up near the front door. But interior appearances aside, Caffe Delicio’s really a commuter’s coffee stand. My white coffee latte arrived searing hot and assertively sweet. The whipped foam was snow white and angelic. A virginal latte if you will. After a few modest sips I realized the milk had been overheated and scalded. Such a shame considering it was probably a pretty good hot drink. If I hadn’t been sipping and driving I would have peeked inside to see if there was milk skin. I’m guilty of burning things as much as anyone, so Caffe Delicio is possibly worth another visit.

No :-( MD's review (Nov 19th 2006)

I have had some so-so coffee here while in a rush to work or school. But I can’t get over that “The Passion of the Christ” poster just inside the drive through window, and especially can’t get over the times they LIED to me about the chai. I’m lactose intolerant. I was interested a pumpkin chai that was the advertised special, and asked the barista, “There is NO dairy in that pumpkin spice mix or in the chai, is there?” She assured me there wasn’t. I drank that drink. It was pretty dang sweet, but yummy. And then my stomach felt sick. I figured, too much sugar. But about a week later, I stopped by in search of a plain old chai. Just for the heck of it, I asked again: “Is there any dairy in your chai mix?” Barista said: “Nope, we steam and add the milk.” I said, “Are you absolutely sure? Would you mind checking the ingredient list?” She went off to look. I’m sure she was delighted to have such a demanding little customer. BUT. She came back and said, “Uh, actually, there IS some nonfat powdered milk in there.”

Lesson learned. And actually, the same thing happened at the Service Station recently. Apparently there are several places that use powdered chai mix around here, and it’s fairly safe to assume that those are going to contain some powdered milk. Word to the wise. Vegans and people with allergies need to be able to outsmart the average barista.

Yes :-) Cassidy's review (Dec 23rd 2006)

They have the best plain mochas anyone can get in this town.
I like this place and it just so happens to be a couple blocks from my place, plus the specials are good deals too.

No :-( Amanda's review (Feb 21st 2007)

I thought it would be a good coffee house by the looks of the outside, but I was very disappointed. Starbucks is better by far – and that’s not saying much!

I ordered a mocha and I could not even taste the espresso, the milk was burnt and the chocolate-not too tasty…and she forgot my whip cream!
