El Rincon Tapatio is one of those places that have been recommended to me by numerous people. And who is the Remi to turn down a place with a glowing word-of-mouth reputation? Well…

It’s not that this Hillyard Mexican restaurant is downright awful; I certainly have experienced worse food. The problem is that there are plenty of places close by that offers a better and more authentic experience. Like La Katrina. Or Tacos Tumbras. El Rincon goes with a rather Americanized menu, and the dishes are loaded with sour cream, bland guacamole, and flavorless meat. And the tortillas? I’m pretty sure they came straight from Safeway’s Diane’s aisle.

The service is good though, and the staff is friendly enough, though I hate repeatedly being called “amigo.” It just doesn’t sound very sincere.

Rincon’s food is up there with the best. The salsa is fresh and tasty and is worth the experience alone. Order off the lunch menu for the best prices, but if you really want authentic food ask for the dinner menu. They have the most authentic, flavorful dishes around.

I’ve eaten at Rincon a few times. Imagine Azteca without the chain feeling. It is Americanized and there is nothing really special about the restaurant. If you like Azteca, it is a little lower priced and the menu is similar.

Good fast Mexican food in the tradition of corner barrio storefront restaurants found in the southern urban areas. Reminds me of south central LA.

I love Rincon I go there anytime I want home cooked Mexican food at a great price. The fajitas are enough for two hungry people and are around 15 dollars. Dinner for two for 15 bucks and its great! I personally love the chicken mole enchiladas. Their mole is the best I’ve ever had so always ask for extra sauce and tortillas!
