Something about the Coffee Works drive through coffee stand next to the BINGO hall on east Sprague Avenue has always piqued my interest. I’m sure it has something to do with the adjacent US Bank ATMs. Part of me finds the idea of driving through the ATM, grabbing twenty dollars, and then driving through again for a cup of coffee extremely comical. I just can’t decide if it’s America’s Funniest Home Videos funny or Monty Python funny.

Nonetheless on a recent morning Remi and I gave it a shot. As soon as I saw the fluorescent poster board advertisements for something called a chocolate bomb I should have aborted the coffee mission. I at least had the good sense to suggest Coffee Works was probably not the best place to order a dry cappuccino. We sucked it up, not sure how we could back out with a car behind us, and ordered lattes. Small lattes.

Remi drank his and muttered about how it tasted like muddied water. I discarded the straws and took a timid sip too. Uccello’s. Seriously, what is it about their coffee I can’t stand? If I could nail it, I’d be a content connoisseur. Needless to say, I couldn’t drink my latte. It was weak and watery. Like drip coffee that had been diluted repeatedly to stretch a dollar with a pungent aftertaste that lingered in my mouth all day.

It’s about a 60/40 shot with Coffee Works. Most days it pretty good coffee but I have had a day or two when I was really disappointed.

The girls who work here provide no service, make terrible coffee, and throw themselves at men constantly. It is disgusting and pathetic. As a former barista I can honestly say- they are what attract those who are not interested in coffee. I have never been so repulsed in my life.

The location on ash has great girls there! They are always smiling no matter who I get to serve me
